What is in it?

First it's important to remember that as mentioned what you are actually investing in is the information in the book - designed to significantly improve your knowledge of the the promotion process and your skills and abilities to gain success. This in turn increases confidence and gives you a crucial edge over your rivals. The book contains not only everything you need to know to pass the Board BUT how to put it into practice (unlike many other training books). It takes you right through the journey of passing your Board, from first gathering your evidence and how to pick good examples, how to learn and apply good interview techniques through to walking out of the door feeling good. The book contains explanations and practical exercises too for you to get to grips with and really learn your stuff. Some people might find the sections on calming nerves most important but I’ll leave you to judge for yourself how important that is to you.

How does it work?

The book treats passing the promotion board as a process and breaks it down into four easy to manage chunks. It provides explanations and practical examples, plus exercises for you to do too. In learning the different chunks you are really building up not only your understanding of the two things the Board are really looking for in you but importantly how to demonstrate them during the Board.

How does it help my nerves?

We know from experience what a negative effect the run up to a Board can have not only on your life but those around you too. A handful of people are lucky enough not to be effected by nerves, but if you are then there are a number of techniques for you to learn and use, either by themselves or all together whichever is best for you. The techniques are all practiced by other people in situations that suit them, such as sports people, public speakers and actors to name just a few. They are easy to learn and apply and reduce nerves and especially the cotton wool in your mouth that frequently comes as a result.

Why have you written this?

I learned about promotion boards and how they work the hard way. I know what it is like to sit on both sides of that table and upon leaving the Service decided to put the skills and techniques I have learned in other disciplines together with my police experience and produce something to help police officers like you. I only wish something like this had been available for me then!
